Paul Riedmüller

Portrait of Austrian artist Paul Riedmüller in his studio

Paul Riedmüller (b. 1989, Graz, AT) is a visual artist based in Vienna, Austria. Riedmüller's work goes beyond the representation of digital phenomena and is essentially more concerned with our perception of reality as altered by technology. Over time, Riedmüller’s practice has evolved to seamlessly integrate digital and traditional methods. This hybrid approach allows him to push creative boundaries and experiment with new ways of making. His favorite tool is his airbrush; “it's a vital tool for achieving the effects I want. It helps me bring depth and texture into my work in a way that nothing else can.” the artist states. The airbrush contributes to the artist's investigation into the relationship between image and reality creating a digital-like 3D effect, reinforcing Riedmüller's distinct expression.  For Riedmüller, art was never a conscious decision but an intrinsic part of his life. From an early age, he was drawn to visual exploration—always sketching, experimenting, and searching for ways to make things visually compelling. Over time, he realized that creating art was not just a pastime but an essential way of engaging with the world. Riedmüller finds inspiration in the ordinary. The way light falls on a street corner, the random visuals encountered online, or the unnoticed textures of daily life all fuel his creativity. His most profound ideas emerge not from forced effort but from quiet observation and letting his mind wander.

His academic foundation in art and design began at HTBLVA Ortweinschule Graz, where he studied Graphic Design and Communication (2009). He later refined his artistic approach at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, specializing in Painting and Animation Film. As a member of SOYBOT, a printing and micro-publishing collective in Vienna, Riedmüller actively explores the intersection of art, technology, and publishing, which influences his broader artistic practice. Paul Riedmüller has exhibited internationally, with solo shows at Horizont Gallery (Budapest, Vienna), Koenig2 by Robby Greif (Vienna), and SINK (Vienna). His work has been featured in major group exhibitions, including The Hole (Los Angeles), Good Mother Gallery (Los Angeles), and Christine König Galerie (Vienna). He has also participated in Parallel Vienna, created a public mural for Stadt Wand Kunst (Mannheim, Germany), and shown at FIG Festival (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Okay space (Athens, Greece) among others.
